Sheila the Great was a favorite book of mine as a child.
This big, bold, and beautiful spider came to my mind immediately when asked to redesign a book cover with illustrations.

The initial drawing was done with pencil, details and outlines added with Micron pens, then brought into Photoshop to digitally edit and refine. All of the color was painted digitally and layered with a variety of transparency options to perfectly match the ink drawing.

Background textures were scanned in individually and used on the book cover to add dimension. All of the shadows cast from the spider’s body were also added digitally to create the seamless drawing adaptation.
